How to use Locations on the BIT website

Set geofences around important locations for your business to track dwell times and load weights.

A "Location" is a place you surround with a geofence on a map to track vehicles entering and exiting the area. Locations can be saved for all kinds of facilities or functions.

These features are only available to enterprise customers who have BIT Dashcam. Please contact your account manager if you are interested in access to Locations.

Adding Locations on the website

To add a new Location, Select "Dispatch" from the navigation bar and then select "Locations" from the menu.

Click the blue "Create Location" button on the top right.

Add_location_name_group

Enter a name for the Location.

If you will have multiple Locations of different types, you may want to add a new Location Group. Selecting a Location Group is optional when creating a new Location, and you can always add or edit the group later on existing Locations.

Adding Location Groups

Name the Location Group and use the slider to select the color that will represent these types of geofences on the map. If you want to use specific or branded colors, type the 6-digit hex code in the color field.

New_location_group

Click the "Create Group" button to add the Group. It will now be available in the Location Group selector when creating or editing Locations.

Adding the location address

A street address is required for all Locations. If you already have the address, enter it into the appropriate address fields.

You can also obtain the address from the map in the New Location panel if it has a business entry on Google. Use your mouse's scroll wheel to zoom in and out on the map. Click to drag the map until you can see your location.

Click the gray pin on the location to get a popup bubble with the address. Add the address to the correct fields in the New Location form.

Setting the Geofence

With the address entered you can click "Generate from address" above the map. The system will start a shape around the address.

If you have your location already centered on the map, you can click "Start a rectangle" and it will put the rectangle over the map center.

You can go ahead and fix the shape to perfectly fit the location, but it's easier to do this after saving, as the map is larger.

Click the "Create Location" button to save your location.

Editing Locations

To adjust the geofence on the map, click on the white circles at the corner of the colored rectangle, or the gray circles in the line centers to create your preferred outline.

You can edit any of the fields in the left panel, like the name, group, or color.

If your Location is in the wrong place, you can enter a new address on the left and click the "Create Location for Address" button at the top of the map to move the geofence to the correct location.

Viewing Location activity and historical data

Once the Location is saved, any time a driver or vehicle enters or exits the geofence it will be logged in its History and Activity Feed tabs.

The History tab will show entry and exit times, as well as the dwell time inside the geofence. It will also show the entry and exit gross weight if the truck and trailer have Air Scales installed and calibrated.

The Activity feed will have times and dates of entry/exit and log any changes made to the Location record.

Viewing Location geofences on the map

Location geofences will show up on the dashboard map and route history maps. They are hidden when the map is zoomed out and will only appear when zoomed in closer so they don't interfere with general map viewing.

Location geofences will show on route maps and the dashboard map. They are only visible when the map is zoomed in to a local level view.

Vehicle Activity Feed, Route Maps, History

Location entry/exit is also logged on the Vehicle's Activity Feed and History record. Just like the geofence history, vehicles equipped with calibrated Air Scales will log their entry and exit gross weight.

API Key ID

Each Location is given an API ID so that location history and alerts can be pulled through Blue Ink Tech's open API. You'll need to share the API ID with your broker or other third party to give them access to specific Location data.
