How to download dashcam video from the SD card

The SD card holds High Def video that's too large to upload over cellular, but can be accessed directly for download.

Getting video files directly from the SD card is a great way to get footage without using up cellular data or having to upgrade your plan. Sometimes the general timeline video on the SD card is the only footage available of an event that happened a few days ago.

To help BIT Dashcam customers easily access files on the SD card, Blue Ink Tech offers a multi-connector SD card reader that can connect to most devices for downloading files.

Plug the USB connector into the computer. The SD card folder should open automatically.

Open the "DVRMEDIA" folder, then open the "CarRecorder" folder.

In "CarRecorder" you'll find two folders called "EVENT" and "GENERAL".

EVENT videos are 15-second HD clips triggered by harsh driving events or by the driver pressing the event button on the camera. These are only road-facing videos.

GENERAL videos are 1-minute HD clips of all the dashcam's recorded footage. It has a folder called "ForwardCam" for road-facing footage, and one called "InwardCam" for secondary camera footage. You'll probably want to start with "ForwardCam" to find the event footage first.

Open "ForwardCam" and find the folder with the date the event occurred. Open that day's folder to see all of the recorded video from that day. The videos are named for the time the recording started.

Remember that the timestamps on these files are in Universal (UTC) time, which is five hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.

When you've found the video footage you need, you can save the MP4 file to your computer for later use or sharing.
