Does BIT Dashcam record sound?

Yes, BIT Dashcam has a microphone that records sound.

Sound can be important evidence in a dashcam event video, whether it's hearing the driver honk the horn to warn the other driver to prevent a collision, or the driver reading out the license plate number of the car that side swiped them.

For some drivers, though, it feels like an invasion of privacy, which is understandable. Here are some answers to questions drivers may have about the dashcam's microphone.

Does BIT Dashcam always record sound?

Yes, whenever the camera is powered and recording video the microphone is also on and recording.

Can my admin listen to everything I say in the truck?

No. Admins and other carrier personnel only have access to videos that have been uploaded to the website or retrieved from the dashcam through the app. This means 15-second event videos when harsh driving occurred, or 1-minute video clips specially requested to see an event that didn't trigger an event. So, while they might catch a few words here and there, no one can listen in on you all day long.

Can the microphone be shut off?

Yes. BIT Dashcam does all the microphone to be turned off, so no sound is recorded. This is something that the carrier administration will need to request to have done by reaching out to their account manager or the support team.
